PhD student Annie Howitt becomes runners-up at FameLab 2020

last modified Jul 06, 2020 03:06 PM

On the 3nd of June Annie Howitt (PhD student) took part in the Famelab 2020 UK final. FameLab is an international science communication competition, in which contestants have 3 minutes to give a scientific talk, using just their voice and props to impress the judges. The competition ran a little differently this year: starting with the heats done via video submission and the regional Cambridge final conducted over zoom. After progressing through these rounds, Annie took part in a Science Communication masterclass and a radio interview before representing Cambridge at the virtual UK final. The final was live streamed over YouTube with an audience vote, UK winner and runner-up up for grabs. Annie’s talk on how it takes a village to raise a tumour won her 2nd place and £1000 prize money to spend on furthering her future science communication career.
